T he mere knowledge that man is a sinner condemned, who requires his sins to be thoroughly cleansed, does not automatically gain him salvation. It requires such knowledge to pierce and convict his heart. “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two- edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart” [Hebrews 4:12]. The Oracles like a hammer, can breakdown the resistance of any heart – “Is not My Word … saith the Lord … like a hammer that breaketh the rock in pieces?” [Jeremiah 23:29]. It brings the sinner to his knees in repentance to seek forgiveness for his sins [Psalm 51; 139:23-24] even as it persuades the sinner to accept God’s invitation to salvation [Isaiah 1:18-19; 55:6-7]. The Oracles being the Living Word, have the power to regenerate life – “Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever” [1 Peter 1:23]. Feeding on the pure milk of the Word, the newborn grows in faith. He keeps away from sin by hiding God’s Word in his heart [Psalm 119:11] and is guided along the path of righteousness by the light of His Word [Psalm 119:105]. The Oracles of God give rest to the weary and heavy laden [Matthew 11:28-30] and strength to the weak [Isaiah 40:31; Philippians 4:13]. For the sorrowing and troubled, it grants comfort and peace [Isaiah 40:1; John 14:27]. It has the power to convict, break, regenerate, reveal, illuminate and nourish the Saint – authoritative in all things pertaining to faith and life. For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. – Romans 1:16

LESSON

Much every way: chiefly, because that unto them were committed the oracles of God.
