T he Oracles of God are the words uttered from the mouth of God [Acts 7:38; Hebrews 5:12; 1 Peter 4:11], that is, the Holy Scriptures. “God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;” [Hebrews 1:1-2]. The Oracles of God were divinely inspired, recorded and preserved by human agents under the superintendence of God Himself. The Oracles recorded by forty men from different walks of life over some sixty generations and one thousand and five hundred years in three languages (Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek) constitute the Holy Scriptures divinely arranged in sixty-six books to form the Holy Bible – the progressive revelation of God’s redemption plan for sinful man. The Bible is divided into two major sections. In the Old Testament God reveals Himself, His works of creation, commandments, dealings with Israel, prophecies and the promise of the Messiah. The New Testament is the fulfilment of the Old Testament withGod the Son, Jesus Christ incarnate; His ministry on earth and accomplishment of the redemption plan; His resurrection and prophecy of future things; and the inspired apostolic epistles which amplify the doctrines of the Christian faith. The Oracles, preserved, first entrusted to the Jews – and now in our hands – containing God’s commandments, promises, prophecy and warnings are to be accepted by faith, obeyed, held in honour and propagated for the saving of souls to the glory of God. Read it to know God, His redemptive plan, and the assurance of our hope in Him.

LESSON
