P aul quotes David in Psalm 32:1-2a. This psalm may have been written after David’s repentance for his adultery with Bathsheba. Have you committed sins you regret, sins that have resulted in sleepless nights, sins that have scarred your loved ones? Have you come before the Lord in genuine repentance yet the pain lingers? David has something to tell you today. Hearken to his testimony here and see how blessed the Christian is. He says in Psalm 32:1, “Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered.” The word “blessed” means “happy”. The Christian who realises he is forgiven is a happy Christian. Instead of wallowing in self-pity and suffering in sorrow, David calls us to experience the joy in God’s forgiving grace. Our focus now ought to be on God’s forgiveness and not on our past sin. God’s forgiveness is a well-established biblical fact and not a ‘feeling’ we must attain to feel better. Surely, we have to first repent and make peace with both God and man. Thereafter, we are not to dwell on those thoughts of grief, despair and sorrow, but embrace the fact that the Lord Jesus Christ has died on the cross for a specific reason (our sins) by reading His Word and engaging in intimate prayer. Dear Christian, realise the rich grace of the Lord Jesus Christ who perished for you. He died so you may live for Him and not linger in self-pity, doubt and sorrow. This day, be encouraged that God forgives all who come before Him in genuine repentance, regardless of what sins your past may be filled with.

LESSON

Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered.

Christ’s blood covers all our sins, no matter how grievous you think they are.
