F rom verses 15 to 17, we read further regarding the ways of the wicked – the character and behaviour of godless people who are without the Lord Jesus Christ in their lives. This is a metaphorical picture of a person’s character. Paul is quoting from Isaiah 59:7-8 to illustrate man’s sinful nature. Looking back at verse 13, the sin of the tongue is included to conclude the list of sins committed against God. We use our tongue too freely to backbite our fellow beings. The Bible warns us of misusing our tongue in James 3:8. In the same breath from the same person, that tongue is used to sing praises to God in church. It is the same with the other body parts, as mentioned in verse 15 here. Our feet will go where the heart leads, which is so willing to do evil. Human beings are so ready to backbite and criticize one another. This only shows the person is not a believer, especially when he persists in his wrongdoing. We should not be surprised at the unbeliever’s persistence because he is under Satan’s control. He is spiritually blinded and lured away by the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes and the pride of life [1 John 2:15-17]. Hence, he will continue in his wrong doings. Man’s evil deeds may not be seen by his friends but nothing and no one can hide his actions from God. We may even escape their consequences now, but the day of final reckoning will catch up with us. Be warned that judgment is sure and certain.

LESSON
