N o one will be declared righteous in God’s sight by His laws. God gives each of us a conscience to know that we are not able to fulfil the law of God. Our ego leads us to unbelief and to justify our goodness, that we are not that bad. Man chooses to be answerable to himself. We suppress the knowledge God has given us, that is, the knowledge we have broken His laws. If we are honest in measuring ourselves against God’s law and reflect on our lives, we will have to admit we come up far short. We are guilty before God. The penalty of sin is eternal death. Our effort and whatever good we try to do will not admit us to heaven because we are unable to achieve the standard set by God. In other words, we are guilty as charged. But our Lord Jesus came to redeem us. Instead of us dying for our own sins, our Lord took our punishment and died on the behalf of those who believe in Him. He gives us an opportunity to receive Him as our Saviour. When we face God after death, we can boldly say that the Lord Jesus paid for our sins. God grants all who have Jesus in their hearts a place in Heaven to dwell with Him forever. Why does God need to do this for man? He knows we will come short of His laws. It is solely out of love that our Lord Jesus came. It is out of His mercy and grace that we have the opportunity to listen to the Gospel and understand it. And we are to tell this good news that saves to others so that they too are able to dwell in Heaven forever.

LESSON

Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.

Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin. – Romans 3:20
