T he godless have no peace simply because they do not have any fear for God. In this verse the word “fear” means “respect”, “reverence”. It does not mean “terror” or “be frightened of ” as used today. Note that the three short verses preceding verse 18, when read in reverse, are interrelated and refer to the outcome of the lack of reverence for God. There are many references to God-fearing characters in the Bible. David for one sought to do God’s will in obedience to His Word. The importance of Psalm 19:7-11 is a good reminder for us to respect God and His Word, thus staying close to Him. The fear and respect of God and His Word will result in knowing the peace of God. We are assured of this peace in Philippians 4:7: “And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus”. What God promises here is true, inner peace of soul and spirit. Every child of God is a sinner saved by grace through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. We are imperfect, but we are clothed in the righteousness of Christ. Let us live in thankful obedience and share the joy of our salvation with those who do not know Him. Do you have the peace of God in your heart? If not, delay no longer. Right this moment, pray the prayer of salvation to accept Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Saviour. Then you will definitely experience the joy of inner peace in Him.
