Daily Manna_April to June 2022

T oday, we look at what God’s Word tells us about an organ that He has given to man for his use: the mouth (including the throat, tongue and all other parts therein). Firstly, we see that God in His wisdom gave us a mouth for multiple uses: to eat (and drink), speak, and even to breathe (we breathe through our mouth as well as nose). God has given us an efficient body which does not require separate organs for each of the functions mentioned above. We can extend this idea to the rest of our body, and indeed, God created man to be able to do multiple things with the same body. Let us focus on the words that come out of our mouths. Even words have multiple uses, and one thing is sure, words can be meant for good or for evil. Consider the words “build” and “destroy”. A cursory look may make us think the former is good, and the latter bad, but consider Genesis 6:7 where God told Noah that He will destroy all that He had created. God is holy and good in all He does and thus He meant it for good even in destroying His creation. The lesson, therefore, is twofold: firstly, we must be careful not to be hasty in reading into a word that is said to us. Secondly, we also need to be careful with our words, and ask ourselves: “What is the intent in our hearts when we say those words?” Do we intend them for good or do we mean it for evil?

LESSON

Their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit;

the poison of asps is under their lips.

The heart of the righteous studieth to answer: but the mouth of the wicked poureth out evil things. – Proverbs 15:28
